Hey there! My name is Jack Barnett, and I’m the owner of OCBV. I’m an Ocean City MD native, but spent many years living in places like Vermont, Ireland, and Washington DC.
I started OCBV in the fall of 2020. Ihad pooled enough money together to purchase my first rental property (Surf Shack), so I finally jumped into the world of real estate investing. I had been interested for a while, but pictured myself in the long-term rental game.
I can’t remember the exact moment, but at one point I realized: wait, I live in a beach town with a massive vacation rental market, why not go for short term rentals? And once I dipped my toe in, I was ready to dive in headfirst.
I’ve always been an avid HGTV viewer, especially the shows focused on renovation. Rehabbing a property has always been my favorite part of the process. Seeing it transform, and knowing it’s because of the hard work you’ve put in is the most rewarding feeling I can imagine. For me, no detail is too small, as they all contribute to the overall feel of the property the guest experiences. My philosophy when renovating is that I have to make my properties look better than the guests’ actual homes. Because if staying with us is a downgrade, why would they bother?
Near the end of 2021, I began taking on management clients. My attention to detail and focus on the guest experience paid off greatly, as in 2022 we went from 4 properties to 26. Now, in 2024, I have nearly 45 properties in the OCBV family! The growth has remained very manageable, as I live in Ocean City and are able to get to any of my units at a moment’s notice.
My goal for OCBV is to continue to grow, but without sacrificing quality or attention paid to the guests. This is why I’m very careful about how we grow, and not bite off more than I can chew. That’s why I don’t do long term rentals, or anything too far outside of Ocean City. Short term vacation rentals are my specialty, and I’m always working on perfecting them,
When I’m not working, you can find me at the gym, playing video games, listening to hip-hop, or enjoying some food at any number of Ocean City’s fantastic restaurants. If you want to see what I’m up to, you can follow me on Twitter here.
